Bikram Yoga Manila

Last September, C32 (my college block) had a dinner in Greenbelt. From there, I had a long talk with my friend, Aileen. We mostly talked about how we can balance our social life, work, and healthy lifestyle. Our conversation led us in to trying yoga.

I went searching for good yoga places within the vicinity of Makati and The Fort and found Bikram Yoga Manila (www.bikramyogamanila.com). Bikram Yoga Manila is located in 15/F 88 Corporate Center, Valero St. cor. Sedeño St., Salcedo Village, Makati. Its proximity from our work has made us decide to try it and as luck have it, they're offering a special rate for beginners!

So what's the difference of bikram yoga from the other kinds of yoga? Bikram Yoga was founded by Bikram Choudhary in the late 1970s. It is a series of 26 postures including 2 breathing exercises that will run for exactly 90 minutes. Each posture stretches and strengthens the muscles, ligaments, and joints in the body. Aside from that, Bikram Yoga is done in a heated room with a temperature of 38°C. The heat helps to warm the muscles (which will burn fat easily), clears the circulatory system, improve the function of the nervous system, and promotes sweating which detoxifies the body.

The poses look impossible but the greatest challenge in doing this type of yoga was the heat. The first breathing exercise has caused us to sweat like we ran for an hour. Yes, it was that crazy! I seriously felt like all the fluid in my body is being exhausted. All the beginners from the class kept on rubbing off the sweat from the body but (obviously), it won't stop. The sweat was immensely distracting but one must learn how to shrug it off. This type of yoga is no joke and I must say, I almost gave up on the second day due to the heat and the incredible hard poses but you know what kept me going? My goal to achieve a healthy lifestyle. I don't mind taking both the 6:30 am and 6:00 pm classes because I know that I am going to benefit from it. Bikram Yoga actually improves ones cardiovascular systems and coincidentally enough, I have both a heart and lungs disease. See how beneficial it is for me?

After completing our bikram yoga subscription, I have felt that my body has improved, most particularly my heart and lungs. Although I still experience some (literal) pain in my heart and it will no longer be healed, I'm positive that it will eventually lessen. I am always looking forward to waking up each day and doing yoga! I suggest that you guys try it. Just a piece of advice for everyone: go with a friend who is dedicated into finishing whatever activity that you want to accomplish. As they say, don't let your friend lost motivation to get fit. Be the best Fit Friend you can be!

    1. Hello, Abbey! At first, it wasn't easy (all because of the heat), but eventually, we are now used to it. And mind you, it has a lot of good effects not just to your body but to your mind as well! Why don't you try it? :)
